One Month of Blogging

Yesterday was my one month anniversary of blogging. Is that all it has been? It seems like I've been doing it for quite a while now, but sure enough, it's only been a month.

I really had no expectations when I started doing a blog. I didn't know if anyone would want to read it, or would pay any attention to it at all. But I figured if nothing else, it would be a good record of my thoughts and experiences that I could look back on some day.

After I had been blogging for a week or two, I found a world map on my sons website. It marked visitors to your website on the world map, and if you kept zooming in, it could even show you the exact house they live in. Now that can be a little spooky, but I also thought it was extremely cool at the same time. This way I would know if anybody was actually reading my blog, and where they lived. In the beginning, I was getting 20-30 new visitors a day, which I was pretty impressed with, but then it started building, and some days I was getting 40-50 visitors a day. Now I'm averaging over 100 visitors a day as close as I can.

So I decided to take a look at how many different visitors I have to my blog, and where they all came from. Since I installed the map, I have had 414 unique, or different visitors. Although I question that figure, since I know I have had visitors from places that never showed up on the map. Oh well, still I'm happy with that figure. I've had over 2,500 hits on my blog, but of course many of those are people just coming back to read new entries.

I have readers from 36 U.S. states, 7 Canadian provinces, 2 U.S. Territories, and 42 different countries. The countries include Canada, United States, Mexico, Bridgetown - The Grenadines, Columbia, Brazil, Argentina, South Africa, Morocco, Portugal, Spain, United Kingdom - England, Germany, The Netherlands, Norway, Belgium, Luxembourg, France, Poland, Macedonia, Bratislava, Romania, Bulgaria, Serbia, Turkey, Greece, Italy, Israel, United Arab Emirates, India, Vietnam, Thailand, Philippines, South Korea, Japan, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Australia, New Zealand and the Marshall Islands.

I'm not really sure how you rate success in a blog, but since I started out with no expectations at all, I consider this a roaring success after only one month. I think I'm hooked on blogging, and will be doing this for quite a while. Thanks to all of you who continue to read the mad rantings of a delusional old dive bum, I think that's how my son put it. Anyway, I appreciate all of you and the time you spend here!
